My technical strengths are in prototyping and new product development for high reliability systems built to tackle enormous challenges in fields like aerospace and autonomous driving. I enjoy designing for custom real-time applications with interesting requirements, building winning teams, and boosting organizational capability through mentoring and training. My other research and development interests are in sensors and controls, solar power, and low-power devices.
I started assembling personal computers and writing code as a youth in the mid-90s, my first real job at age 16 was with a computer repair center, and I've been working with computing systems ever since.
I am also an airplane pilot, car enthusiast, and amateur mechanic and roboticist.
What follows is a brief intro to my 20 years of practical and postgraduate experience - a 16 year past in professional engineering, plus 4 years as a teacher and trainer. For more, please visit my LinkedIn page or use the Contact Me form to request a résumé.
Experience
Recently leading firmware development for cutting edge SDR, RADAR, and PNT devices at Augustus Aerospace Company.
Led firmware design and development for ADAS and autonomous driving controllers at SF Motors (now SERDES).
Two years, as co-founder and CEO, directing software and firmware work for gamer/VR sensing support systems at Cyndr.
One year in various roles for promising tech startups: leading special projects in RISC-V computing at Intensivate, and crypto-currency mining systems firmware development and reverse engineering at HashRabbit.
Three years in avionics equipment embedded software development at BendixKing (Honeywell Aerospace).
Six years in military satellite communications and information assurance digital hardware and firmware at ViaSat.
Pre-professionally, two years as an instructor of circuit analysis and two years teaching and training overseas in the Spanish language.
Education
I have degrees from two of Business Insider magazine's top engineering programs.
Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at California Polytechnic State University with emphases in digital signal/image processing, real-time sense and control with microcontrollers, and computer arithmetic. Extensive MATLAB work. Thesis work in solar power distribution optimization and battery management system prototype with complete Simulink simulation.
I started my college career with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering at Brigham Young University, with a focus on operating systems and a minor in Mathematics.
